GREEN DAY LAUNCH

Salwan Montessori School came alive with vibrant energy and an eco-conscious spirit during its much-anticipated Green Day launched on May 3rd, 2025. This inaugural event, to be followed by monthly celebrations under different environmental themes, brought together parents, teachers, and young eco-warriors in a heartfelt celebration of sustainability, creativity, and hope. Highlights included a meaningful Soil Passing and Plantation Ceremony, where parents lovingly planted saplings, symbolizing the nurturing of both Earth and young hearts. The event featured soulful choir performances, expressive eco-themed dances, and a captivating puppet show that combined fun with powerful environmental messages. The key moment was the launch of the SDG Book for Children, designed by Headmistress Ms. Sona Gombar, aimed at introducing the Sustainable Development Goals to young minds. Teachers further brought these values to life through engaging story enactments. Inspiring speeches by the Headmistress and environmentalist Ms. Nidhi Malhotra underscored the urgency and hope for sustainable living. With enthusiastic participation from the entire school community, the Green School Mission has evolved into a powerful movement—where green is not just a color, but a shared commitment to protecting and nurturing our planet for future generations.

SDG BOOK

As part of its commitment to environmental education, Salwan Montessori School launched the SDG Book for Children to introduce young learners to the Sustainable Development Goals through engaging storytelling and puppetry. During the months of April and May, teachers narrated age-appropriate stories during assemblies, each focusing on building environmental awareness and responsible habits. These stories inspired children to take small but meaningful steps toward a greener future.

SAVE WATER

At Salwan Montessori School, we emphasize SDG 6 – the ‘Water Goal’ – to promote the sustainable management and availability of clean water and sanitation for all. Through various assemblies, students learn about reducing water wastage through engaging stories and activities designed to build awareness from a young age. These age-appropriate lessons help them understand the importance of clean water and its impact on health and the environment. Motivated by these efforts, our young learners have pledged to use water mindfully and contribute toward achieving SDG 6, while supporting the broader Sustainable Development Goals.

PLANTATION DRIVE

Salwan Montessori School organized a heartfelt Plantation Drive on Earth Day that brought together students, parents, grandparents, and school staff in a collective effort to honor and protect our planet. United under the inspiring messages of “Save Environment, Save Earth” and “Each One, Plant One,” participants planted saplings with care and enthusiasm. Young learners, along with other stakeholders, took a meaningful pledge to contribute to the well-being of Mother Earth through small yet impactful actions. The event beautifully reinforced the importance of environmental education and highlighted our shared responsibility to nurture and safeguard the planet for future generations

RECYCLING DRIVE

Under the theme Project Greenovate: Reimagine • Recreate • Restore – A Step Towards Sustainability, our young Salwanians enthusiastically participated in this creative initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious citizens. With the support of their parents, children transformed discarded and waste materials into imaginative creations, turning “waste” into “wonder.” These unique projects showcased their creativity and talent while sending a powerful message of environmental responsibility. Through Project Greenovate, our young eco-warriors are taking meaningful steps toward building a greener, more sustainable future—one creation at a time.

NO PLASTIC CAMPAIGN

Salwan Montessori School proudly spearheaded the “Say No to Plastic” campaign, bringing together students, parents, grandparents, teachers, and MTS staff in a united effort to fight plastic pollution and promote sustainable living. Together, the community collected 170 kg of plastic waste, which was responsibly handed over to an NGO for recycling. This impactful initiative demonstrates our strong commitment to safeguarding the planet, reducing plastic use, and creating a cleaner, greener future for generations ahead.

ENERGY CONSERVATION DRIVE

As part of the Energy Conservation Drive, students at Salwan Montessori School participated in a peaceful nature walk to deepen their connection with the environment. They engaged in a “lights off” activity, using natural sunlight to understand the importance of saving electricity. Outdoor mindful meditation, light exercises, and movement games helped the children feel calm, healthy, and joyful, while highlighting the benefits of staying active and appreciating nature. Through these simple yet impactful actions, students learned how small efforts can make a significant difference in conserving energy and protecting our planet.

PROJECT BASED LEARNING:

Salwan Montessori School is proud to present Eco Fit Summer, a project-based learning initiative designed to foster a culture of sustainability and support our journey toward becoming a Green School. This thoughtfully crafted summer project engages students in hands-on, eco-friendly activities that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through fun and meaningful challenges, mindful routines, and creative tasks, children explore simple yet impactful ways to care for the environment, promote well-being, and develop responsible habits. Activities such as growing plants, crafting with recycled materials, conserving water, and practicing mindful eating help young learners connect deeply with nature and nurture a sense of environmental stewardship. Eco Fit Summer empowers our students to become little changemakers, staying active and creative while contributing to a greener, healthier planet in joyful and practical ways.

ECO-EDUCATION IN ACTION

The curriculum for the foundational stage is thoughtfully designed to offer a holistic and integrated learning experience. It blends scholastic and co-scholastic domains to ensure that children develop cognitive, emotional, social, and physical skills in a balanced manner. Language, numeracy, and environmental awareness are interwoven with creative arts, music, physical education, and storytelling. Life skills such as empathy, communication, critical thinking, and resilience are embedded across all areas of learning. The curriculum also introduces age-appropriate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to nurture global citizenship and environmental responsibility from an early age. Play-based and experiential pedagogies ensure joyful learning and deep engagement. This integrated approach lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning and well-rounded development.
