“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” – Mother Teresa
At Salwan Montessori School, we strive to instill in our young learners the values of empathy, responsibility, and sustainability. As part of our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a Special Assembly was conducted on SDG 2: Zero Hunger, which focuses on ending hunger, promoting food security, and encouraging healthy and mindful eating.
The assembly began with an insightful address by our respected Headmistress Ma’am, who spoke about the importance of food in our lives and the role each one of us can play in ensuring that no one around us goes hungry. She encouraged the children to appreciate their meals and never take food for granted.
A meaningful story was also narrated during the assembly to help children understand the importance of sharing, avoiding food wastage, and showing kindness towards those who have less. The story beautifully conveyed the message that small actions, like sharing a meal or saving a portion, can lead to big changes in the lives of others.
As a part of this initiative, a Food Drive was organized. Children brought dry food items from home and placed them in the Food Sharing Box set up at the school gate. These collected items were then distributed to the poor and needy, reinforcing the message of compassion and social responsibility.
The assembly was a heartwarming reminder that even our youngest learners can be changemakers. Their active participation and sincere efforts reflected a deep understanding of the value of food and the importance of caring for others. With every shared packet and thoughtful gesture, we took a step closer toward a world with Zero Hunger.
